Here's a good set of basic Maya modeling tutorials, focusing on game environments:

They're pretty thorough and detailed, particularly for free tutorials.

Modeling a Nissan 350Z

Most vehicle modeling tutorials out there - particularly cars - use NURBS, since that surface type is well-suited to mathematically generated curved surfaces like modern car bodies. For games these needs to be converted to Polys before exporting, and for beginning modeling it's often easier to stick to one modeling technique so there's not quite so much you have to learn; so here's a tutorial on modeling a Nissan sports car using polygons.
